Topic 2 General Notes

This unit is a great opportunity to get the students doing lots of small activities and teaching them to work with error and uncertainty. It also forms the basis for their problem solving skills, applying free body diagrams and good technique in breaking down word problems. This unit is vital to the rest of the course.

- Using an air track and pulley-weight system to determine the effects of change mass on acceleration.

- Have students go up and down in an elevator on a scale to explain net force

- Students use friction boards and masses to determine coefficient of static friction and to predict force needed to overcome static friction.
